Once a simple fishing port, the town is now very attractive and has an interesting history.
During the Spanish Civil War, the Port de Pollença lighthouse was converted into a military base at the behest of General Franco.

Wealthy families from Madrid and Palma built beautiful retreats along the long stretch of bay known as the Pine Lane in the early 20th century.

Watch the sunset from the cliffs on the way to Cap d’Formentor, where the old watchtower stands. The winding journey to the top is only permitted out of season but you can also enjoy a wonderful and incomparable view of the Bay of Pollença from the first viewing platform.

If you prefer to do some serious hiking, traverse the beautiful scenery of the Boquer Valley to a secluded cove. If you’re lucky you’ll see some eye-catching birds soaring overhead along the way, such as black vultures or Eleonora’s falcons, which are very rare in the rest of Europe.

Many of Port de Pollença’s waterfront shops cater to holidaymakers – but nearby Pollença, below Mount Calvary, has all the shops, restaurants and other small shops open all year round.

For golfers there is Golf Pollença, a 9 hole course on the main road to Palma. Further afield is the 18-hole Alcanada course, near Alcúdia, which offers spectacular views and a challenging, first-class course.

The calm, shallow waters of Pollença Bay are ideal for the popular sport of ’stand up paddle‘.
Kite surfing is also very popular and Pollença is a good place to learn. The colourful kites can often be seen from the beach towards Alcúdia.
